Women ROCKS is a recent and impactful initiative of Riverbend ROCKS, bringing women together for cooking, connection and more
Riverbend Reaching Out to Community and Kids Society (ROCKS) is a local non-profit organization that connects families living in the Brander Gardens Civida complex and surrounding areas to accessible opportunities that promote social inclusion, community connection and an enhanced quality of life.
One of our impactful initiatives is Women ROCKS, a program designed to bring women in the community together through shared experiences, peer support and collective leadership. At our Community Hub, women have created their own space for connection, starting with movie nights, knitting circles and Chai time. Over time, cooking emerged as the most loved and requested activity. Today, our cooking sessions have become the heart of Women ROCKS.
Thanks to funding from Amity House, we were able to expand these cooking sessions into regular, community-led events. This support has not only allowed the program to flourish but also created paid leadership roles for three dedicated women from the group, who now lead sessions and inspire others. These gatherings go far beyond preparing meals: they have become safe, welcoming spaces where women share stories, support each other and build lasting friendships.
The impact of Women ROCKS is both personal and collective. Participants feel more connected and confident, with a stronger sense of belonging and ownership over the program. These sessions have opened doors to deeper conversations about needs, interests and opportunities, helping women access other programs and resources to support their families. Most importantly, the program has fostered inclusion, mutual support and leadership, while building trust and strengthening the belief that neighbors are there for one another. We deeply appreciate Amity House for their generous contribution which has sustained and empowered this program through the leadership of participating women. Their support has made a lasting difference in the experiences of those involved.
As we look ahead, we are excited to continue growing Women ROCKS, adding new resources, expanding participation and creating even more opportunities for families to connect, grow and thrive together.
