ADULT PROGRAMS
English Second Language (ESL)
Bridging the capacity of our families is one of our main principles, and our connection with families informs outreach and initiatives.
A number of women new to Canada expressed a need for English language learning. To fill this gap, we run weekly one-on-one ESL sessions in their homes or our Community Hub.
Friendship Circle
Every Thursday, we run a program for women from 7 to 8 PM.
These circles provide a safe and inclusive space for women to plan their evenings with activities and discussions on various topics, ranging from personal growth, wellness, and empowerment.
We foster an environment where women can exchange knowledge and talents such as knitting, crocheting, painting, self-care practices, and parenting advice.
With a cup of tea, this circle includes movie nights, Pilates, card games, and more.
INITIATIVES
Complex Community Garden
Our Community Garden provides a unique opportunity for neighbours to connect and grow a stronger sense of community. Vegetables are planted in a variety of garden beds, providing a shared resource for everyone in the community to enjoy.
Parents and children alike participate in the care of the garden: special thanks to our Wednesday Water Warriors! Community members share valuable knowledge and experience, inspiring individuals to grow food in their own backyards.
Our garden encourages healthy eating, and impacts food security and sustainability within our community.
Food Supports
We offer weekly farmers’ markets in the summer to enhance food security in our community. Our neighbours can visit the Market and take home fresh fruits and vegetables, reducing food insecurity and helping to prevent waste within our community. This initiative promotes healthy eating and helps to build a more sustainable future for everyone.
Community Bazaar
A bazaar is a traditional marketplace where various goods such as clothing, food and crafts are sold and exchanged. At Riverbend ROCKS, we are proud to host multiple summer bazaars with a fun twist, all of which are free for our neighbours to attend, thanks to the generous support of our partners.
Our bazaars have themes, including a back-to-school bazaar, where children can stock up on school supplies and visit the clothing bazaars. These events provide an excellent opportunity for members of the community to come together, socialize, find items they need, all while having fun and building connections with one another.
