Children and Youth Programs

Youth ROCKS Program

Through our partnership with SkillCity Institute, we offer STEM-based workshops and career/future opportunities exploration every Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at the Terwillegar Community Recreation Center.

These workshops are designed to encourage youth to explore careers and acquire relevant skills where they learn and grow together.

We believe in the value of building a strong foundation of knowledge and industry skills and strive to empower our youth to navigate life’s challenges and opportunities.

Gym Night

We believe that sport is a great opportunity to engage youth and younger kids in a safe and friendly environment.

We have a Gym Night every Friday from 7:30 to 8:30 PM at Riverbend Junior High School, where our younger generation, from 7 to 18 years of age, engage in their preferred activities and build relationships with peers, staff, and board members.

Tutoring Program

In April 2023, we piloted a Tutoring Program at Riverbend Junior High School. Currently, we are offering one-on-one and group tutoring for all ages, from elementary to high school levels, at our Community Hub.

Riverbend ROCKS understands that when students receive tutoring support, they show significant improvements in their learning and academic performance.

Summer Programs

Summer Fun Learning

One of our biggest undertakings is the Summer Fun Learning Program, a FREE summer camp designed for children aged 6 to 12.

The program takes place in July and August, and children participate in all-day programming that includes physical literacy, academic learning (reading and writing), and social skills.

The program also incorporates natural world learning through gardening and exploration of nearby natural habitats, field trips that promote connection and learning about different aspects of life in Edmonton, and opportunities for cultural expression.

Youth Engagement

Our youth are a vital part of our community, and we strive to understand their hopes and challenges. The program is drop-in and targets youth ages 13 to 19, providing educational, social, and recreational activities, as well as mentoring for educational and life transitions.

We prioritize the focus areas of post-secondary access and options: money management and employment readiness, including resume building and interviewing.

Our goal is to connect youth to relevant resources and support in the community. We recognize the importance of the engagement of our youth in influencing future programming.

After-School Program

Every Monday and Wednesday from 4 to 5 PM, we provide an After-School Program for children under 12 at the Community Hub.

We foster child development through evidence-based approaches and mixed-age programming and activities to strengthen our participants’ social and emotional development.

Organically formed environments of fun and learning provide space for children to feel connected and grow together.

This program is an opportunity for intergenerational engagement with parents and neighbours (such as African Drumming activities) where kids learn about their international cultures through the exploration of language, music, art, and history.
